Alappuzha (Kerala), Aug. 24 -- The union Government will launch a pilot project on diversified fish farming in Kuttanad to enhance the livelihood opportunities of local farmers.

The initiative, to be implemented by the Department of Fisheries, will promote both modern and traditional aquaculture practices, including integrated fish farming, cage farming, the "one fish one paddy" model, and biofloc farming.

To strengthen local participation, Fish Farmers Producers Organisations (FFPOs) will be formed for better coordination and operations. The decision was taken at a consultative meeting held at the ICAR-Central Marine Fisheries Research Institute (CMFRI).
