Hyderabad, Nov. 20 -- Farmers' Commission Chairman Kodanda Reddy tonday strongly criticised the union government for what he described as its failure to take responsibility for cotton procurement in the state.
In a statement here, he said that it is the duty of the Centre to procure cotton through the Cotton Corporation of India (CCI), but recent decisions indicate an attempt to withdraw from this obligation.
Reddy said the Centre's move in the NITI Aayog meeting to reduce its role in cotton procurement was deeply concerning. He alleged that purchase centres are being opened late "with malicious intent," creating hardship for growers at a time when they need immediate support.
