Chandigarh, Nov. 9 -- In a first-of-its-kind move, the Election Commission of India has deployed 12 companies of Central Armed Police Forces to ensure peaceful polling during the Tarn Taran Assembly by-election scheduled for November 11.

Punjab's Chief Electoral Officer Sibin C said that while 100 polling stations have been marked as sensitive, central forces will be stationed at 114 booths. All polling locations will be under CCTV surveillance and webcasting. The Commission has also declared a public holiday on the day of voting to facilitate voter participation.

Campaigning in the constituency ends at 6 p.m. today. Liquor vends will remain closed, and outsiders have been directed to leave the area until polling concludes. Around 1.92 la...
