Thiruvananthapuram, Feb. 27 -- A walkathon was organised here on Thursday to mark the Centenary of Electric Traction in India, a significant milestone in the nation's railway journey, highlighting Indian Railways' ongoing efforts to increase renewable energy dependence and its ambition to achieve Net Zero Carbon Emission by 2030.

Electric traction, which began on February 3,1925 with the first service between Bombay VT and Kurla, has since played a vital role in enhancing operational efficiency, reducing carbon emissions, and promoting sustainable mobility across the country.

The transition to electric traction has made railway operations more energy-efficient, cost-effective, and environmentally friendly.
