Kolkata, April 8 -- : Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar ordered the immediate removal of an Election Commission-appointed observer on Wednesday after expressing strong dissatisfaction over the officer's lack of basic knowledge about his assigned constituency.

According to Commission sources, the observer, Anurag Yadav, who was in charge of the Cooch Behar South assembly constituency, failed to provide essential information regarding the number of polling booths in his jurisdiction.

The issue came to light during a review meeting conducted by the chief election commissioner with all general observers appointed for West Bengal's 294 Assembly constituencies.
