Srinagar, June 19 -- Raising alarm over growing pollution in the Indus River, Chief Executive Councillor of Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Council (LAHDC, Tashi Gyalson, on Thursday announced a large-scale, community-driven clean-up campaign to protect the water body.
Gyalson chaired a high-level meeting to launch a mission-mode clean-up campaign of the Indus River and its adjoining areas. The meeting, held at the Leh brought together councillors, top civil and military officials, and representatives of civil society.
"This river is not just a water body. It is sacred. It is worshipped, and it sustains lives. We cannot stand by as it turns into a dumping ground," Gyalson said.
