Hyderabad, March 29 -- The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has registered a case against six individuals, including five officials from the Income Tax Department in Hyderabad and a Chartered Accountant, on allegations of cheating taxpayers and obtaining undue advantage for themselves.

The accused officials include two Income Tax Inspectors and three Senior Tax Assistants from various offices in Hyderabad, along with a private Chartered Accountant.

They are alleged to have misused confidential Income Tax Department data related to taxpayers who claimed high refunds. Instead of following due process, they reportedly contacted the assesses, threatened them with hefty penalties, and extorted money.
