New Delhi, May 27 -- The Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) on Tuesday extended the due date for filing Income Tax Returns (ITRs), originally slated for July 31 to September 15. In a press release, the CBDT said the extension was necessitated by structural and content revisions made to the notified ITR forms for Assessment Year (AY) 2025-26. These changes, aimed at simplifying compliance, improving transparency, and ensuring accurate reporting, have required additional time for system development, integration, and testing of the corresponding return-filing utilities.
