Belagavi, Nov. 4 -- The agitation by sugarcane farmers has intensified across Belagavi district, with protests erupting in several parts of Athani, Gokak, Chikkodi, and nearby areas, as farmers demand a fair price for sugarcane and the clearance of pending dues.
Supported by pro-Kannada organisations, the farmers have called for a bandh, prompting authorities to declare a holiday for schools and colleges in major areas. Shops and business establishments have voluntarily shut down in solidarity, while protesters have blocked several key routes, including the Gokak-Athani road and the Darur-Halyal bridge.
