Washington, May 3 -- UK King Charles III and Queen Camilla will visit Canada on May 26-27 to deliver a speech from the throne, marking the first time in 50 years that this event will take place to open a parliamentary session following a snap election, Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney announced on Friday.

"Their Majesties The King and Queen will visit Canada on May 26 and 27, 2025. We will have the privilege of welcoming His Majesty King Charles III, who will deliver Canada's Speech from the Throne on May 27," Carney said in a statement.

Carney added in his statement that Canada has a "steadfast defender in our sovereign."
