Ottawa, June 30 -- Canada's first LNG export terminal began operations, the Globe and Mail newspaper reported.

A vessel carrying the first shipment of liquefied natural gas from LNG Canada's new export terminal will set sail for Asia on Monday, the publication said.

It is noted that the terminal in Kitimat, British Columbia, was built due to Canada's desire to diversify its fossil fuel exports, which are dominated by the United States.
