Ottawa, Aug. 21 -- Canada is striving to reduce its economic dependence on the United States by strengthening ties with Nordic countries, Canadian Industry Minister Melanie Joly said.
"We know we are overdependent on the US on trade. We know that we have to invest more in our military because of under-financing for decades . Our defense industrial strategy is helping us invest more in the EU and diversify our economic partnerships with key countries in Europe, including Sweden and Finland," Joly told the Financial Times.
On August 18, the Canadian government announced that Joly would travel to Sweden and Finland from August 18-22 to advance Canada's industrial and economic interests abroad.
