Kolkata, Sept. 16 -- The Calcutta High Court today completed hearing on the bail petition of former West Bengal Education Minister and Trinamool Congress Secretary General Partha Chatterjee in connection with a CBI case over alleged irregularities in the recruitment of primary teachers.

The hearing was significant, as bail in this case would be Chatterjee's only route to freedom after more than three years in Kolkata's Presidency Central Correctional Home, where he has been lodged since July 2022.

Justice Suvra Ghosh, who heard the matter, reserved the order, leaving the former minister's release uncertain until the verdict is delivered.
