Kolkata, Oct. 14 -- A single-judge bench of the Calcutta High Court granted interim protection from coercive action to former BJP MP Arjun Singh in connection with multiple FIRs filed against him across various police stations in West Bengal, today.

Singh, who represented the Barrackpore Lok Sabha constituency in North 24 Parganas district, had moved the court seeking relief from police action in several cases, including recent FIRs filed after his controversial remarks suggesting a possible "Nepal-like" public uprising in West Bengal.

A total of 10 new FIRs were registered following the statement, adding to several earlier cases, most of which fall under the jurisdiction of the Barrackpore Police Commissionerate.
