Kolkata, Dec. 17 -- The Gorkhaland Territorial Administration (GTA) has suffered a fresh setback in the Calcutta High Court over alleged corruption in teacher recruitment in the hills when Justice Biswajit Basu cancelled the appointments of 317 teachers, holding the entire recruitment process to be illegal and against the law on Wednesday.
The appointments were made by the GTA and later came under legal scrutiny.
During the hearing, the court noted that at a GTA meeting, Roshan Giri had proposed regularisation of the teachers, but the state government had clearly objected to the proposal.
The GTA argued that regular recruitment was not possible at the time due to the prevailing political situation.
