Kolkata, Sept. 9 -- The Calcutta High Court has dismissed a petition filed by freedom fighter Gopal Chandra Mukherjee's (popularly known as Gopal Patha) grandson, Shantanu Mukherjee, seeking a stay on the release of filmmaker Vivek Agnihotri's Hindi movie The Bengal Files.
Shantanu Mukherjee argued that the film dishonoured his grandfather's legacy. Gopal Patha is remembered for his role in protecting Hindu neighbourhoods in central Kolkata during the communal riots of 1946.
The plea alleged that the film misrepresented him by using derogatory terms such as "patha" (goat) and "kasai" (butcher).
