Calcutta HC declines to interfere with ongoing SIT probe into Salt Lake Stadium violence during Lionel Messi show

Kolkata, Dec. 23 -- The Calcutta High Court on Monday declined to interfere with the ongoing Special Investigation Team (SIT) probe set up by the West Bengal government into the fiasco during a Lionel Messi show at Salt Lake Stadium on December 13 in which violence erupted and football fans vandalised the stadium.

A set of PILs, including that of Leader of Opposition Suvendu Adhikari, had sought a CBI probe or an independent agency inquiry headed by a sitting high court judge, as well as ticket refunds, following the chaos at the Lionel Messi event.

After the hearing ended, the High Court's Acting Chief Justice Sujoy Paul, who had reserved the order in the afternoon, later declined to interfere with the SIT probe and observed that the pre...
