New Delhi, Oct. 7 -- The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA), chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, today approved four major railway multi-tracking projects with a total estimated cost of Rs 24,634 crore.

These projects will extend the Indian Railways network by approximately 894 kilometres across 18 districts in Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat, and Chhattisgarh, and are scheduled for completion by 2030-31, union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw said at a press conference here.

Besides improving logistics, the projects will contribute to environmental sustainability by reducing oil imports by an estimated 28 crore litres and cutting carbon dioxide emissions by 139 crore kilograms annually-equivalent to planting six crore trees....
