New Delhi, Aug. 8 -- The Union Cabinet today approved the Multidisciplinary Education and Research Improvement in Technical Education (MERITE) scheme with a total outlay of Rs 4,200 crore, aimed at improving quality, equity and governance in technical institutions across India.
The five-year Central Sector Scheme, to be implemented from 2025-26 to 2029-30, covers 275 institutions- 175 engineering colleges and 100 polytechnics - across all States and Union Territories. The programme includes a Rs 2,100 crore loan component from the World Bank, said the government in a statement.
