Kolkata, Feb. 17 -- In an significant development, the West Bengal Cabinet on Tuesday approved a landmark proposal aimed at ensuring the availability of experienced officers for higher responsibilities and bringing parity among various State Constituted Services, a move that is being seen as having clear political and administrative significance ahead of the next Assembly elections.

The decision was taken at a Cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee at Nabanna, the state secretariat.

Later, addressing a press conference at Nabanna, the Chief Minister announced that the Cabinet had approved the creation of an additional 20 per cent posts at different pay levels in nine State Constituted Services.
