New Delhi, Feb. 1 -- Announcing a series of health sector reforms in the union Budget 2026-27, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on Sunday proposed expanding India's traditional healthcare systems, strengthening medical tourism, and addressing gaps in mental health and geriatric care.
A key announcement was the setting up of three new national-level All India Institutes of Ayurveda, aimed at tapping the potential of India's traditional medicine systems and positioning Ayurveda as a global healthcare offering. The government also proposed upgrading the India WHO Global Traditional Medicine Centre (GTMC) in Jamnagar for enhancing research and innovation in the sector.
