Srinagar, Nov. 11 -- The Budgam Assembly constituency in Jammu and kashmir recorded a voter turnout of 49.89 pc in the bypolls held on Tuesday, officials said.

The turnout marked a slight dip compared to 52.27 pc recorded in last year's Assembly elections. In the 2014 Assembly polls, Budgam had witnessed a much higher participation, with 66.07% of voters exercising their franchise.

District Election Officer (DEO), Budgam, Bilal Mohi-ud-Din Bhat said everything went smoothly in the bypoll.

The bypoll was necessitated after Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, who had won both Budgam and Ganderbal seats in last year's Assembly elections, vacated Budgam, choosing to retain Ganderbal.
