Chennai, April 23 -- Brisk turn out was witnessed right from the morning as an estimated 56.81 per cent of the total 5.73 crore electorate have cast their ballots in the six hours till 1.00 PM as single phase polling to elect the 234-member 17th Legislative Assembly in Tamil Nadu, which began at 7.00 AM amid tight security, was progressing peacefully.

The elections thus far was by and large peaceful, with no major untoward incident reported from any part of the state, police said.

Except for a minor incident, when police arrested four people including an Independent contesting from Kalasapakkam seat in Tiruvannamalai district on charges of damaging an EVM leading to tension and some delay in the polling process, the voting was continuing ...
