Chandigarh, Aug. 27 -- The Pathankot-Jammu National Highway has been partially closed following severe damage to a bridge over the Ravi River on the Lakhanpur side, disrupting a key connectivity route between Punjab and Jammu.
The closure has led to long queues of vehicles, with traffic completely halted from the Jammu side.
Heavy water flow in the Ravi River, exacerbated by the release of water from the Madhopur Headworks, caused the bridge damage, authorities reported.
The situation worsened when a building housing CRPF personnel and civilians near the Madhopur Headworks in Lakhanpur collapsed. Army helicopters were deployed to rescue those trapped in the structure, which later crumbled entirely.
