Sao Paulo, Dec. 13 -- Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva has formally requested US President Donald Trump suspend the additional 40 pc tariff imposed on Brazilian products, as both countries continue high-level trade negotiations aimed at resolving the dispute.

"The president has requested that the tariff be paused while negotiations are underway. We must wait," said Vice President and Minister of Development, Industry, Trade and Services Geraldo Alckmin on Friday.
