Brasilia, Feb. 19 -- Brazil has joined the charter of the Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC), which paves the way for its participation in extended OPEC talks, a statement published by the OPEC read.

"OPEC welcomes the decision approved today by the National Energy Council of the Federative Republic of Brazil (CNPE) that formally paves the way for the participation of Brazil as a Member of the Charter of Cooperation (CoC) between oil producing countries," the statement, released on Tuesday, read.

The decision follows the announcement made by Brazilian Minister of Mines and Energy Alexandre Silveira at the OPEC and non-OPEC Ministerial Meeting in November 2023.
