Pune, April 20 -- Historian Dr. Raja Dixit on Monday advocated the need to empower young girls through strong personal values, while speaking at the launch of the Marathi book 'Vismrut Veerangana' (Forgotten Heroines), authored by a champion of women's empowerment the late Sujatabai Bhagwat.

The event was organized by 'The Empower Her Foundation' at Deccan Gymkhana here.

Dr. Dixit suggested that girls supported by the foundation should take a pledge to pursue higher education, choose their life partners independently, reject dowry, maintain small families, build careers or businesses, and treat sons and daughters equally. "Such values will shape the kind of woman Sujatabai Bhagwat envisioned," he said.
