Haveri, Sept. 17 -- Former Chief Minister and MP Basavaraj Bommai today urged Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah not to conduct caste-based surveys in the state just to appease any particular group, stressing that the state must wait for the central government to carry out its official census.

Addressing reporters here, Bommai said the union government has already announced that a caste census will be conducted alongside the general population census. "Until the central census is conducted, the state should refrain from carrying out surveys. Such actions create confusion and are politically motivated," he said.
