Bengaluru, Sept. 16 -- Former Karnataka Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai today voiced sharp criticism of the state government's proposed caste survey, flagging concerns over its legality, constitutionality, and political motives.
He particularly questioned the inclusion of atheists and religious converts in the survey, warning that such classifications could threaten community harmony across the state.
Addressing reporters, Bommai demanded clarity on the legal basis for recording atheists and reconverted Hindus. "Which law or constitutional provision mandates these categories? Atheists have no religion - why are they being assigned one? The survey, as designed, bypasses constitutional principles," he said.
