Mumbai, Sept. 11 -- Two public interest litigations (PILs) have been filed in the Bombay High Court challenging the Maharashtra government's order making it easier for members of the Maratha community to obtain Kunbi certificates.

The petitioners have demanded that the government order be struck down as completely illegal.

The order was issued after Manoj Jarange Patil's hunger strike in Mumbai, during which the state government agreed to implement the Hyderabad Gazetteer.

Under this order, committees are also being set up at the village level to verify eligibility criteria.

However, the decision now faces a legal battle.
