Rome, May 15 -- Bologna edged out AC Milan to win the Coppa Italia, their first major trophy since 1974.

Dan Ndoye scored the only goal in Rome's Stadio Olimpico, latching on to a loose ball in the box before lashing a shot into the back of the net on Wednesday.

It secures Bologna a place in next season's Europa League, with Milan - who have not won the Italian Cup since 2003 - still uncertain of a European place.

Bologna, captained by Scotland midfielder Lewis Ferguson, will feel they deserved their victory.
