Miami, June 19 -- Boca Juniors pair Ander Herrera and Nicolas Figal were suspended for four matches each after receiving red cards in the Argentine club's FIFA Club World Cup opener against Benfica.
Boca said it would appeal the decisions, arguing that the punishments are disproportionate after Benfica's Andrea Belotti received a two-match ban for a head-high challenge on Ayrton Costa
during Monday's 2-2 draw in Miami.
"We have already contacted FIFA to submit an appeal," a Boca spokesperson was quoted as saying in the Argentine press on Wednesday.
Herrera was sent off from the bench in the 45th minute after remonstrating with Mexican referee Cesar Ramos over a penalty decision against the Buenos Aires outfit.
