Dhaka, Nov. 28 -- BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has said party chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia's health has deteriorated to an "extremely critical" state, urging people across Bangladesh to pray for her recovery.

Making his comments after offering the Friday Jumma prayers at a gathering in Naya Paltan, Dhaka, the BNP leader said that the former PM's long political struggle had taken a severe toll on her health.

"Her contribution to the democratic movement is undeniable. She spent her entire life fighting for democracy," he told supporters.
