Mumbai, Oct. 2 -- The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation(BMC) has commenced an online auction of immovable properties to recover long-outstanding property tax dues totalling Rs 8.55 crore, marking the first such digital initiative in nearly two decades.
This action targets various properties including land parcels, shops, and residential units across multiple wards with significant unpaid taxes and penalties.
This measure is being implemented under Section 200(2) of the Mumbai Municipal Corporation Act, 1888, which authorises the municipal body to sell properties for tax recovery purposes.
