Gangtok, March 21 -- Miffed being referred as Scheduled Tribes in the Gazetteer of Sikkim, the Bhutia Lepcha Protection Force members have decided to burn the copies of the pages.
Phigu Tshering Bhutia, President Bhutia Lepcha Protection Force said,"We will burn the pages that refer to us as Scheduled Tribes on March 24. We condemn being called STs."
"We are BLs (Bhutia-Lepchas) and not tribals.If history is distorted this way what would be the result?"he questioned.
Mr Bhutia demanded the people of the community be referred as Bhutia Lepcha as per the Representation of Sikkim Subjects Act,1974.
He said the Bhutia Lepcha Protection Force members will burn the pages of the Gazette at the B-L Bhawan,here.
