Kabul, Nov. 10 -- Two children lost their lives as an explosive device left over from past wars went off in Bala Murghab district of western Afghanistan's Badghis province on Sunday, the provincial police office said in a statement.
The children found a toy-like object and began playing with it, but the device exploded, killing them on the spot, according to the statement.
About 1,150 square km of Afghan territory remains contaminated with landmines and explosive remnants of war, according to a report released by Afghanistan's National Disaster Management Authority.
