Kolkata, Dec. 29 -- In a significant development the Election Commission of India has issued a written direction that booth-level agents (BLAs-2) or representatives of any political party will not be allowed to be present at hearing centres during the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) process in the state.
The instruction came after Trinamool MLA Asit Majumdar visited the Chinsurah-Mogra block office in Hooghly and stopped the hearing process demanding a written explanation from the Commission on why BLAs were not being allowed to attend the hearings. The process remained stalled for nearly two hours.
Majumdar has said he would act according to the directions of Abhishek Banerjee and Mamata Banerjee.
