Moscow, Jan. 31 -- The crew of the military UH-60 Black Hawk helicopter that collided with an American Airlines passenger jet near Ronald Reagan International Airport in Washington had significant experience and thousands of flight hours, the ABC News broadcaster reported on Friday.

There were three military personnel on board: a male instructor, a female pilot, and a crew chief, the report said, adding that the instructor had more than 1,000 flight hours, the pilot had more than 500 hours, and the flight engineer also had hundreds of hours of flight experience.

The helicopter was performing a routine night flight over the Potomac River, a route that was well known to all crew members, the report noted.
