Kolhapur, Feb. 6 -- Ruparani Sangramsinh Nikam of BJP and Jansurajya Party's Akshay Jarg were elected as the Mayor and Deputy Mayor respectively of Kolhapur Municipal Corporation.
With this the state's ruling BJP grand alliance created history by raising its flag atop the Kolhapur corporation for the first time.
As soon as Nikam and Jarg were elected by a majority vote, their supporters burst into celebrations in the city to the accompaniment of musical instruments and firecrackers.
In the mayoral election held under the chairmanship of Peethasan Officer and District Collector Amol Yedge, Nikam got 46 votes while rival Congress party's Mayoral candidate Sachin Maruti Shende recieved 35 votes.
