Kolkata, May 4 -- The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) surged ahead in early trends after around three hours of counting in the West Bengal Assembly elections on Monday, leading in 140 constituencies, indicating that the saffron brigade is heading for a clear majority in the state.

After the completion of the third round in 216 of the 293 constituencies, Trinamool Congress is way behind the BJP, managing to take a lead in 73 seats, while others are leading in 3 seats.

Though Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee was trailing after the second round, after the third round of counting, she is leading in Bhabanipur by 898 votes against BJP's Suvendu Adhikari.
