Kolkata, Oct. 5 -- The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) today launched a scathing attack on West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, accusing her of choosing to attend the Durga Puja carnival in Kolkata instead of visiting flood-ravaged North Bengal, where more than 20 people have lost their lives.
State BJP president Samik Bhattacharya, who is scheduled to visit the affected areas tomorrow, told UNI, "We cannot expect any humanitarian gesture from this government. When people are dying in North Bengal, the chief minister is busy with her carnival. She should have left everything aside and stood beside the people.""Natural disasters can happen, but it is the responsibility of the government to provide assurance and support," he said.
