Kolkata, Sept. 2 -- The BJP today criticised the West Bengal government over the cancellation of the 'National Mushaira' programme organised by the West Bengal Urdu Academy under the Minority Affairs and Madrasa Education Department.
The party alleged that the decision came under pressure from extremist organisations opposing the participation of renowned poet and lyricist Javed Akhtar.
Posting on his X handle, union Minister of State for Education and former West Bengal BJP president Sukanta Majumdar wrote, "Is this the inevitable result of unchecked appeasement, where the diktat of fundamentalists becomes final?
