Nagpur, Jan. 16 -- The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is poised to retain control of the Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) for the fourth consecutive term, defying anti-incumbency sentiments on the back of its strong organisational network and the active involvement of senior leaders like Devendra Fadnavis, Nitin Gadkari and Chandrashekhar Bawankule.

According to trends available during the counting of votes on Friday, the BJP had secured victory in 97 of the 151 seats and was leading in another 10 seats, placing it well ahead of its rivals.

Nagpur, which houses the headquarters of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), the BJP's ideological mentor, has remained a stronghold of the party since 2007.
