Imphal, Feb. 4 -- Veteran BJP leader Yumnam Khemchand Singh was on Wednesday sworn in as the new Chief Minister of Manipur.
Sixty-two-year-old Khemchand Singh, a former Speaker of the state Assembly, was administered the oath of office and secrecy by Governor A K Bhalla at the Lok Bhavan, bringing the curtains down on the almost one-year President's rule in the troubled North Eastern state.
The position of chief minister had remained vacant since N. Biren Singh resigned on Feb. 9, 2025, amid months of ethnic violence that destabilised Manipur. The state was brought under the President's rule on February 13 last year.
