Bengaluru, May 4 -- Congress MLA Rizwan Arshad on Monday alleged that the BJP and its allies had attempted to engineer a division of minority votes in the Davangere South Assembly bypoll through "smaller parties and independents," but the strategy had failed as voters backed the Congress decisively.
Reacting to the Congress' imepending win of the constituency, Arshad said the result had exposed what he termed as a "conspiracy" to weaken the Congress by splitting votes, particularly among Muslims.
"All the conspiracies hatched by the BJP and a few people who wanted to defeat the Congress party are exposed. The people of Davangere have given a clear-cut mandate and blessed the Congress party," he told reporters here.
