Shillong, Aug. 15 -- In order to mark India's 79th Independence Day, citizens, including youths, women and students today took part in a massive tricolour rally in Byrnihat, a small industrial town situated on the border between Assam and Meghalaya.

The rally was organised by BJP ST Morcha and Jirang Mandal, under the supervision of the state unit's newly appointed ST Morcha president Hemanta Timung, the rally brought together people from various communities and myriad walks of life.

Gaiety, patriotic fervour and national pride was in abundant display as school children and traders, housewives and professionals, even infants in the arms of their parents, walked in step under the shade of the tricolour and with the national flag in hand. ...
