Mumbai, Jan. 2 -- In a setback for the BJP in the run up to the January 15 municipal corporation polls, the Election authorities in neighbouring Navi Mumbai on Friday rejected the nomination paper of the party's candidate Nilesh Bhojane for Ward No. 17-A (Vashi) citing unauthorised construction on his property.

According to the election administration, this is the only nomination rejected in the Vashi division, where 101 out of 102 nomination papers were found valid after scrutiny.

Election Decision Officer Pritilata Kaurthi declared Bhojane's nomination invalid under Section 10 of the Maharashtra Municipal Corporation Act, 1949, which disqualifies candidates involved in unauthorised constructions.
