Pune, Dec. 16 -- Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Monday said that Pune city and district have emerged as strongholds of both the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) led by Ajit Pawar, and therefore the two parties may contest against each other in the upcoming municipal elections.
However, Fadnavis clarified that such a contest would be a "friendly fight" without any bitterness.
"Even if BJP and NCP face each other in Pune, it will be a cordial contest with no animosity," he said.
The Chief Minister further explained that while the Mahayuti alliance will attempt to contest municipal elections together at most places, the nature of alliances may differ depending on local conditions.
