Bhandara, Oct. 25 -- : Maharashtra Revenue Minister and senior BJP leader Chandrashekhar Bawankule sparked a political controversy on Thursday after telling party workers that their mobile phones and WhatsApp groups were under surveillance ahead of the upcoming local body elections.

Speaking at a Diwali gathering in Bhandara, Bawankule cautioned BJP members to stay disciplined and avoid statements or actions that could damage the party's image or electoral prospects.

"Everyone's mobile phones and WhatsApp groups are being watched. Each word you say is being tracked. One wrong click can cost us the next five years," he warned.
