Dharamshala, Nov. 11 -- Former Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister and BJP leader Shanta Kumar has called upon the state government to bring legislation making it mandatory for every major temple in the state to run a cowshed (gaushala).

He said this step would not only address the growing menace of stray cattle but also revive the spirit of genuine religious charity.

"The incompetence of the government and society has reached such a level that it not only surprises but brings tears," Shanta Kumar said, adding that the cow, once worshipped, is now seen wandering hungry on roads after she stops giving milk.
